how does a landslide form?
There are an amount of possible causes, but two are prominent: heavy rain and earthquakes.

how does a landslide form through heavy rain?
Rain makes the ground wet, which makes it more loose. Because of this, there is a possibility that the ground would collapse - forming a landslide.
how does a landslide form through earthquakes?
Movement in the ground could create cracks and other damages, and this could prompt a steep land to form a landslide.
